The thesis analyses the scope of protection of personal identities provided by the German Basic Law and selected constitutions of the German Federal States. The thesis examines the constitutional conformity of legal restrictions of the individual’s personal identity by the German Civil Status Act using the example of sexual identity. This includes the recent legislative change from December 2018 and the ruling of the German Federal Constitutional Court on sexual identity from 10th October 2017.
