Walter Pauly

Walter Pauly was born in 1960 in Frankfurt am Main. He studied law, political science and philosophy at the University of Bonn, where he earned a PhD in law in 1989. After the legal clerkship at the Regional Court of Berlin he successfully completed his exams to become an assessor in 1990 and obtained the qualification to teach Constitutional Law at German universities in 1993. Pauly holds a chair of Public Law, Legal and Constitutional History, Legal Philosophy at the University of Jena, where he is Dean of the Law Faculty since 2013. He has published on a variety of subjects, focusing on legal and constitutional theory and the history of its concepts.
