Matthias Jakob Ziegert (né Sauer) studied law at the University of Augsburg. In 2010, a scholarship granted by the DAAD enabled him to study abroad at Pepperdine University School of Law, Malibu (USA). After successfully passing the Legal State Examination in 2013, he completed his legal clerkship at the Higher Regional Court of Munich, including a stage at the Federal Fiscal Court. He then worked as a research assistant at the University of Augsburg until 2017, thereby completing his Master's degree (LL.M.) in 2018. During that time, he also wrote his dissertation thesis, supervised by Prof. Dr. Gregor Kirchhof, LL.M. accompanied by a research stay at the Max-Planck-Institute for Tax Law and Public Finance in Munich. In August 2019, he joined the Judiciary of the Free State of Bavaria.
