Klaus Mathis studied economics and law at the University of Zurich, where he also wrote his dissertation on »Efficiency instead of Justice? In Search of the Philosophical Foundations of the Economic Analysis of Law«. He then worked in Bern as a research assistant at the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO). In 2004, he first became Senior Lecturer in Public Law and then Assistant Professor in Public Law at the University of Lucerne. In 2004, he first became Senior Lecturer in Public Law and then Assistant Professor in Public Law at the University of Lucerne. He wrote his habilitation on »Sustainable Development and Intergenerational Justice. Legal, Economic, and Philosophical Perspectives«. He was appointed Full Professor for Public Law, Law of the Sustainable Economy, and Philosophy of Law on 1 August 2016.
