George Turner

George Turner was born in East Prussia in 1935, studied law at the University of Gottingen and graduated in 1960. After assistant- and lectureships from 1963 to 1970 at the Technical University of Clausthal he became President of Hohenheim University (1970–1986). For two terms, 1979 to 1983, he was President of the Rectors' Conference (the association of higher education institutions in Germany) and from 1986 to 1989 he was Senator for Science and Research in (West-)Berlin as a politically Independent. Thereafter, until 2000, he became Full Professor at his former institution, Hohenheim University, and at the same time Visiting Professor at Humboldt-University Berlin. He contributed numerous publications on higher education policy issues.
