Bettina Beer

Bettina Beer studied at the University of Hamburg. In 1995, she completed her PhD in sociocultural anthropology. In 2001 she finished her habilitation with a thesis on concepts of the body in interethnic relations and theories of race, then went with a Heisenberg fellowship to Heidelberg, where she became a full professor in 2006. Since 2008 she has been professor for social and cultural anthropology at the University of Lucerne, Switzerland. Her regional research interests focus on the Philippines and Papua New Guinea; topical interests include transcultural relations, kinship, anthropology of the senses, and history of anthropology.
