The study examines the historical and systematic development of Johann Gottlieb Fichte's (1762-1814) concept of image in his late Science of Knowing (Wissenschaftslehre) in the years 1794/95, 1804/05 and 1812. It is shown that Fichte has overcome the problems of his early approach and has developed the late Science of Knowing into a transcendental-dialectical theory of image, which also includes a new theory of subjectivity and a speculative logic.
