The volume focuses on the question whether the rapid progress of genetic technology needs to be governed by legally binding guidelines, and asks what character and scope such guidelines would need to have. Special attention is given to whether international guidelines can be implemented and to what the ethical basis of such guidelines might be. In order to address these questions appropriately, the volume comprises contributions from a broad range of academic disciplines.
