»A Rhine Republic? The Early Activities for the Rhine State 1918/19 in Times of Upheaval in Constitutional and International Law«

The study deals with the »early activities for the Rhine State« after World War I and their influence both on the genesis of the Weimar constitution and the right of all peoples to self-determination. This rhenish initiative aimed at the secession from the Prussian Rhine Province and the formation of a »Rhine Republic« while, at the same time, remaining a member state of the German Reich. On these grounds, the early activities for the Rhenish Republic were – in contrast to the uprising of 1923 – essentially not separatist.
