Description

»The European Union and Environmental Protection Regimes for the Global Commons«

The environments of the global commons are extremely fragile and the European Union (EU) considers itself to be a »global actor«, in particular in the field of global environmental protection. Expectations to a global environmental actor would be met if the EU fought for the protection of the global commons on an international level. Therefore, Marcus Hornung analyses the involvement, participation, and behaviour of the EU in three environmental protection regimes – Outer Space, High Seas, and Antarctica – in depth. The results show that the EU cannot always catch up with its own ambitious goals.

Press Reviews

»The comparative analysis of the international regimes shows a high degree of analytical capacity and is a real strength of the book: the author succeeds in comparing the various elements of the different regimes, before explaining their relationship to each other.« Prof. Dr. Astrid Epiney, in: Common Market Law Review, Vol. 55, Issue 6/2018
