Duncker & Humblot eBooks – Key information for North American libraries


Duncker & Humblot was established in 1798 and is one of Germany's leading scholarly publishers, with over 17,000 titles in print. We publish around 300 titles every year, most of them in a range of well-established series. Our key subject area is law, along with history, philosophy, political science, economics and literary studies.

Key Information

  • Over 13,000 titles currently available in PDF format.
  • New titles published simultaneously in print and as eBooks.
  • IP-based, campus-wide perpetual access for an unlimited number of simultaneous users.
  • Remote access included (via EZProxy, VPN, HAN, for example).
  • Soft DRM (watermark).
  • Metadata available for download in the eLibrary in MARC 21, or CSV formats. Duncker & Humblot can also provide metadata direct to libraries on request.
  • COUNTER 5 statistics available in the admin area of the eLibrary.
  • Long-term archiving by Portico.


Purchase and Pricing Models

Pick & Choose:

  • No minimum order quantity.
  • Pick & Choose discounts: 5% discount on orders of 10 titles or more, 10% discount for orders on 20 titles or more.

eBook Standing Orders:

  • eBook standing orders are available for all of our series, including the following major international series: Major International Book Series
  • Discount on eBook standing orders: 10% on the pick & choose price.
  • Clear your shelf: libraries subscribing to eBook series who wish to digitize their existing print holdings receive a 50% discount on the pick & choose price of any titles in the relevant series previously purchased in print. Please note that re-digitization on demand is available for series which are currently not available as eBooks.


Subject Collections - Law:

  • Our eBooks in law are available as an annual collection at 20% discount on the list price.
  • Law 2024: approx. 230 eBooks, 25.170,00 EUR (title list; not all titles have been published yet)
  • Law 2023: 230 eBooks, 23.273,60 EUR (title list)
  • Law 2022: 230 eBooks, 22.740,00 EUR (title list)
  • Law 2021: 229 eBooks, 21.337,60 EUR (title list)


EBA Model:

  • EBA purchase models are available for 12 months or longer, with pricing dependent on the size of an institution. Pricing can also be adjusted to take into account a predominantly English-speaking readership.
  • EBA is available for the entire eBook program (over 12,500 titles with a current total pick and choose value of over €1,33 million), or by subject area.
